MAGOR DESIGNS AWARDS

Magor Designs was delighted to have won the inaugural Employer of the Year Award at the 2015 NPTC Group of Colleges’ Students Award Ceremony, held in Swansea University’s Great Hall.

The ‘Employer’s Award’ recognises the outstanding contribution local businesses make to the lives of the NPTC Group of Colleges’ students employed with them.

Chief Executive of NPTC Group of Colleges, Mark Dacey, acknowledged the award:
”We felt that it was time to recognise the commitment and investment that many organisations put into developing their staff through apprenticeships and celebrate the positive impact that businesses and educational bodies working together can make.”

“Magor has engaged with NPTC Group of Colleges fully and we are now both seeing the results of this effort and commitment.”

In front of an audience comprised of the leading players in Welsh manufacturing a team of leaders and apprentices from Magor Designs were honoured to be presented with the Apprentice Scheme of the Year Award.

The Judges were impressed with Magor’s “long term contribution” to apprenticeships and the quality of its development programme. With 8 mechanical and electrical apprentices currently engaged and Magor Designs still employs it’s very first apprentice – with over 46 years service!

Insider editor Douglas Friedl  commented : “These are the fifth Made in Wales Awards, and the world has changed since we first ran them in 2011. Back then, you could still hear people say that manufacturing is dead in the UK, and that everything is made in China. Well, that wasn’t true then and it’s even less true now. In some cases, Welsh companies design products that are made in whole or in part outside Wales. That’s useful too – Wales gets value and good jobs out of the deal. We’re making more products, and the industries represented here are employing more staff.”
